After we completed working on the job, we'll send you the final sheet along with the invoice of pending payment. Once you make the final payment, we'll send you the rest of the project files.
When starting a construction business as a contractor, one always thinks about working in such a trade that is the most important and highly profitable in the industry. Contractors start structural steelwork due to its importance in every high-rise and residential building. Every high-rise structure in the USA and around the globe is incomplete without structural steel elements. Structural steel structures are more earthquake resistant, have lower values of dead loads, are highly efficient and can be built in significantly less time than RCC structures. These characteristics make steel structures more reliable and cheaper than RCC Structures, as they save a lot of time and money.
Before starting the structural steel construction process, bidding is a crucial step in deciding the success or failure of the steel contractor. Bidding should always be accurate to achieve higher gains in the construction market. So, how should a steel contractor ensure he is putting correct numbers against the bidding for a steel job? Here comes BIDWINSOLUTIONS to save the day for our structural steel clients.
With over seven years of experience in structural steel estimating for hundreds of trade-specific steel clients, we own the crown for being the successful company in achieving the highest bid-win ratio with remarkable profits in steel structures. How BIDWINSOLUTIONS do that?
We follow a two-step strategy to be the best choice for our streel contractors. In step one, we ensure that our steel estimating takeoffs are 100% accurate and eliminate any chance for a single error. We do that by a drop-down approach of the estimator’s review process in which a steel estimator will thoroughly review the structural and architectural drawings, do markings on Plan Swift, which is a material takeoffs software, prepare an Excel spreadsheet with all the structural steel takeoffs as per their specifications, and then a senior steel estimator will review the complete job to omit any errors. In step two, we calculate material and labor prices for steel members from fabrication and erection hours based on labor and equipment on-field productivity.
The building is usually divided into two components in terms of steelworks. The very first one is structural steel members, which are load-bearing components of a high-rise or residential building that includes, Beams, Columns, Bracings, Angles, Channels Joist Girders, Deck and non-load bearing elements which are called Miscellaneous steelwork Stairs, Ladders, Railings, Site steel items, Bollards, Canopies. Steel estimator must look into structural drawings for the load-bearing members and most of the times, architectural drawings for no-load-bearing members like miscellaneous metals. Let’s talk about these components in detail.
Steel estimating is a complex trade requiring years of experience in Steel Estimating and on-field practical experience for accurate takeoffs and pricing. Steel pricing is divided into several steps requiring meticulous care to win a job. With over ten years of experience in the construction and estimating industry, BIDWINSOLUTIONS offers a team of highly specialized steel estimators who leave no stone unturned to win steel projects with high profits. The first step is to calculate each structural steel element from the Structural drawings set, comparing it with the architectural drawings and project specifications and then calculating the miscellaneous structural steel items from the architectural drawings.
As mentioned above in the component of structural steel and miscellaneous steel works section, every member of structural steel and miscellaneous steel is calculated and priced in different units. For example, Structural steel members like beams, columns, bracings, channels and angles are first calculated in each count as per their member lengths; these counts and lengths are then multiplied with their unit weights to get total weights. This weight can be priced in pounds or tonnage depending upon the client’s requirement.
Pricing is divided into three components for steel jobs. The first is the material price for steel elements in tonnage per steel specification. Steel can be mild with a simple paint finish, galvanized or Stainless steel. In many cases, fireproofing is also required for structural steel beams and columns, increasing the material price. The Galvanized steel finish costs $1000-$1200 more than mild steel. Stainless steel adds a lot in material price as it is way more expensive than mild steel.
The second step is calculating the fabrication price for structural and miscellaneous steel items. Fabrication price includes the cost of labor hours to fabricate the steel members, steel wastage in the fabrication process, and fabrication drawings cost. Labor hours are different for different steel components, i.e. W-section steel beams and columns usually take 14-18 hours for a tonnage fabrication, whereas HSS sections, angles and C-channels require 20-24 labor hours per ton for fabrication.
The third and most crucial step is the Structural and Miscellaneous steel erection price. It is a complex costing procedure in which the structural steel estimator must have a keen knowledge of the Steel crew, steel crew productivity, Crane scissor lifts and extending forklift prices and productivity, and the nature of the steel job, whether renovation or new construction. Renovation jobs take more labor hours for erection as compared to new construction. A steel estimator must be well equipped with on-site project management knowledge, as there will be delays in the construction activities, which can marginally affect the cost of a steel project.
Specialized in steel takeoffs and pricing, with a remarkable bid-win ratio, BIDWINSOLUTIONS guarantees steel contractors will win more jobs with high profits and fast turnaround. Our steel estimating team can handle substantial steel projects with a steel quantity of more than 2000 tons. We have dealt with high-rise steel structures, airport steel framings and large warehouses with remarkable bid-win ratios. Most of our clients are steel contractors who bid regularly to grasp more steel contracts. BIDWINSOLUTIONS offer working weekends on clients’ demand to wrap up steel estimating projects before time. We also provide solutions to regular steel bidders in the form of dedicated steel estimators who work 40 hours a week for specific clients at a very affordable price.
